United Nations Celebrates 132nd Birth Anniversary of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar

132nd Birth Anniversary of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar was enthusiastically celebrated by Ambedkar International Mission (AIM) USA on 14th April 2023.

The celebrations started with an innovative initiative of multinational zoom-a-thon : “Universal Equality Day 2023”. The concept was to celebrate Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s birthday by commemorating leaders who were icons of equality in their respective countries.

Leaders, activists and specially children from nearly 50 countries came together on a zoom call, which lasted for 24 hrs, in this beautiful tribute to the champion of humanity and equality.

Dr. Ambedkar International Mission USA (AIM USA) was proud cosponsor of the event, at United Nations Headquarters, New York, “Artificial Intelligence for Social Justice”: by Overcoming barriers and unleashing opportunities through Artificial Intelligence for Social Justice.

This theme was focused on the recommendations of our common agenda to strengthen global solidarity and to rebuild trust in government by “Overcoming Barriers and Unleashing Opportunities through artificial intelligence for Social Justice”- “AI for Social Justice”. Representatives from Permanent Mission of India to UN, WHO, ITU- the technical wing of UN and AI industry were part of the panel.

It was an apt tribute to the most prominent Indian civil rights activist, lawyer and politician Dr. Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar.

The attendance to this event was over 300 persons in the ECOSOC chambers and many more through the online telecast. More than 30 persons travelled from India, 40 from out of town and locals participated in this historic event. The event was preceded by a rally with Babasaheb float, blue flags and chants of ‘Jai Bhim’ on the streets of New York. The rally started from Madison Avenue to UN headquarters.

The celebrations culminated at the beautiful Gala Event heightening the festivities and joy at Royal Albert Palace, NJ.

It was a meet and greet with the invited guests of honor in a more informal setting. The gala event started with a Welcome song by the AIM ladies wing followed by brief talks by guests of honor, special performances of singing and dance by AIM’s young volunteers. Around 200 people participated in the gala event. The guests of honor were Meena Kotwal is an Indian journalist, human rights defender, and the founder of The Mooknayak, an online news channel.
